298. Love Letters to Kellie

Every morning when I'm getting ready for work,  I listen to Kidd Kraddick in the Morning on 106.1 while waiting for Cayden's call. Every now and then they do a segment call "Love Letters to Kellie" where people can write in with their relationship problems and ask Kellie Rasberry for advice. It's one of my favorite segments because I get to hear about normal relationship problems, like "my boyfriend is a mamma's boy and he'll always take her side over mine," and "I'm in love with my friend, but he only likes slutty girls. What do I do?" Sometimes I get jealous of their problems. I yell at the radio, "Well, at least he can kiss you goodnight!"And I love how Kellie Rasberry gives her no-bullshit advice. "Well, pull up your big girl panties and get over it!"She tells it like it is.

This morning, during my normal routine, I heard Kidd Kraddick say something along the lines of, "We're about to do Love Letters to Kellie, but we're going to change it up a little this time. We're going to read the letters we have but we're also going to take one caller. If you have a love problem you want to talk to Kellie about, call now."

One time in high school I was caller 103 and I won tickets to a private Blue October and Jason Mraz show. I thought I'd exhausted my radio call-in luck. But someone answered after two rings. I almost shit my pants. "Kidd Kraddick in the morning, do you have a Love Letter to Kellie?"

Did I.

I tried to sum it up the best I could and the friendly voice on the other end said, "Wow. OK, I'm going to put you on hold and you just be ready if they decide to pick you."

They picked me. And I definitely wasn't ready.

Before you listen to this podcast, you need to know two things. 1. You're supposed to start with "Dear Kellie, you are the love expert." and 2. Whitney is my middle name. My first name is Lauren, but I blog under Whitney to keep my sex life separate from my professional life :) Yep. Cat's outta the bag. I've also always wanted to go by Whitney because half of the world population named their daughters Lauren in 1985.

Check out the May 16th podcast and scroll to the 36.44 mark to hear my segment.

While it may not seem like they gave me the best advice (aside from Kellie's suggestion to move to London, get married and then figure the rest out), they definitely helped cheered me up. And off the air, they helped even more. Kidd Kraddick tweeted out to his nearly 100,000 Twitter followers asking people to send me advice (and they did!) and Kellie tweeted me to tell me an immigration attorney heard the segment and posted on their Facebook wall wanting to help. I truly can't put into words how much I appreciate all of their help. You better believe I'll be hitting up that attorney for some words of wisdom.

I also learned that a lot of you found out about my blog when Kellie Rasberry retweeted it two years ago. THANKS, KELLIE! Also, thank you to all of you for reading over the past two years. Y'all effing rock.

In other news, Giselle Phelps, a reporter from the 33 News here in Dallas interviewed me today at the Londoner. She's working on a story about our visa situation. She'll be interviewing Cayden tomorrow and the segment will air Monday night. Stay tuned!

In case you're wondering, no, I don't think this media coverage will help speed up our process. While that would be awesome, it's not my intention. I just want to spread some awareness about the immigration process and its flaws. Illegal immigration gets a lot of coverage in the press, but no one ever talks about WHY they're here illegally. Hopefully our story will shed some light on things.

  1. I have to say your voice is not what i thought. I have no idea what i expect you to sound like but that wasn't it lol. I think i expect more of a latin accent or something.

I hope it all gets worked out soon.

  2. I agree about your voice not being what's in my head when I read your posts...however, I'm kind of excited that more people know your name now, but also sad because I felt like I had a little secret. ha ha ha

I just read the refused post, and literally almost cried with you. I wish you all the best. I know it sucks to wait, but I know that the wait will be worth it in the end. AND, I know you will be a beautiful bride, whenever it may be.

I wish you all the best Whitney!

  3. Yeah.... I sound like a 12-year-old boy with a sinus infection. I've always hated my voice. Thanks for all of the supportive words. though!
